Location

The sought after quiet Hamlet of Hollocombe is perfectly positioned amidst the rolling hills of the Mid Devon countryside with a scattering of quaint cottages, country walks and bridal pathways. Hollocombe lies midway between the national parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor and is within easy reach of the rugged north Devon coast.

The village of Winkleigh is close by and offers a number of useful amenities including a good general store, a butcher's shop, coffee shop, post office, two pubs and a vets. There are two churches, a doctor's surgery, a hairdressers, two garages.

In the opposite direction is Chumleigh a delightful village with a real, old-fashioned community spirit. With its narrow cobbled lanes, rows of thatched cottages, courtyards and welcoming inns it is a pleasure to wander here in this relatively unspoilt part of Devon. It is a year-round destination, with summer gardens and winter walks to enjoy. The 180-mile Tarka Trail starts in nearby Eggesford Forest, which is on the banks of the River Taw, and follows a pretty route through woodland, and offers some spectacular moorland views. Chulmleigh is particularly good for birdwatchers, who can spot kingfishers, cormorants, goosanders and dippers along the quiet riverbanks.

Great Torrington lies about ten miles to the North West and is an unspoilt town built on high ground above the River Torridge, and is a fifteen-minute drive from the spectacular North Devon coast at Westward Ho!. A leading tourist attraction is Dartington Crystal where visitors can see craftsmen blowing and shaping glass, follow the history of glassmaking and buy some beautiful pieces. The town has a good selection of individual shops , a friendly atmosphere, and some good inns.

About a mile from Great Torrington is the spectacular RHS garden at Rosemoor, splendid with colourful roses in summer and in a breathtaking setting by the River Torridge, complete with restaurant and tearoom.

There are many villages to visit on the North Devon coast including picturesque Clovelly built on a steep hillside above the sea, Westward Ho! with fabulous sandy beaches and Hartland village with narrow streets, village square and Hartland Point with breathtaking sea and coastal views.

Fishing is a popular sport in the area, with salmon and sea trout in the rivers and coarse fishing on Catham Lakes and Huntacott Water.
